To be known internally as the G05, the all-new X5 will become the latest model to ride on BMW’s flexible CLAR platform that will allegedly cut weight by some 300 kg, with a new addition being an Off-Road Package the Munich giant claims “offers an impressive combination of off and on-road prowess.
“Be it snow, sand, rocks or gravel roads, the new BMW X5 has the perfect powertrain and suspension setup for each surface,” a statement from BMW read, further claiming that the X5 had undergone extensive testing in Sweden, South Africa and deserts of the United States.
While unseen so far, the interior will closely resemble that of the 5-series and receive BMW’s latest 7.0 iDrive software, while engines will be a mix of four and six-cylinder turbo-petrol and turbodiesel engines with a plug-in hybrid likely to join at a later stage. Although unconfirmed, the flagship X5 M will reportedly come powered by the M5’s 441kW 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8.
