While only identifiable as a red Wrangler Unlimited with a black canvas roof, the specialist online forum claims the model in question could be the entry-level Sport based on its tyres and lack of roof rails.
As previously reported, the JL will receive new front and rear bumpers, indicators integrated into the mirrors, wider front fenders, new door handles and a more upright seven-slot grille compared to the current JK, while some of the body panels will be made from aluminium to keep weight down and improve efficiency.
Jeep's parent company, Fiat-Chrysler, has so far remained coy on exact engine details, although prior reports suggest the JL will make use of a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine dubbed Hurricane and mated solely to an automatic gearbox, a revised version of the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with either the automatic or a six-speed manual, and the same 3.0-litre EcoDiesel (CRD) used in the Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500.
In-line with previous sightings, the JL could see the return of a pick-up model to replace the long departed Dodge / Ram Dakota as FCA's smallest offering, as well as being the first Jeep to offer an open bed since the Cherokee XJ-based Comanche ended production in 1992.
