Distinguished from the latter by virtue of a revised lower front facia, redesigned rear bumper, optional full Matrix LED headlights and fettled chassis, the GTS’ interior gains are minor with the sole changes being sport pedals, choice of full premium leather of full-grain Pieno Fiore natural leather and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
The GTS’ biggest departure from the S is of course underneath the bonnet where the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 has made way for the same Ferrari build 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 used in the Quattroporte GTS, which develops 404kW/730Nm.
Up 84kW/150Nm on the S, Maserati claims that the GTS will complete the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 292 km/h. As ever, Maserati’s Q4 all-wheel drive system is entrusted with sending the amount of grunt to all four wheels, via a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic gearbox.
