Already on sale in Australia and recently unveiled in Europe, FMCSA has confirmed that the Ranger’s range of engines will not only include the 157kW/500Nm 2.0-litre BiTDCi that will power the Ranger Raptor and higher-end models, but surprisingly also the long-serving 2.2-litre TDCI and 3.2-litre TDCI motors that will likely be used for lower-spec variants.
A new inclusion however is the single turbo version of the Raptor’s engine that powers the Ranger in Europe, but which has been re-tuned to produce 132kW instead of 125kW, with torque remaining unchanged at 420Nm. Expect transmission options to once include the six-speed manual and six-speed automatic, though the 157kW motor and indeed the aforementioned 132kW will get the 10-speed automatic co-developed with General Motors.
With cab styles once again including single, super and double cab, the top-spec Wildtrak will join its Thai-made sibling sold Down Under by incorporating Pre-Collision Assist and Active Park Assist amongst others. Exact spec details are still unknown.
Expect complete details of the updated Ranger range to be announced closer to the model’s yet-to-be confirmed local launch date.
