Commissioned by Aston’s in-house Q by Aston Martin division, the DBS 59 pays tribute to the DBR 1 that finished first and second at the 1959 24 hours of Le Mans driven by Roy Salvadori/Carrol Shelby and Maurice Trintignant/Paul Frère, and mainly comes with a number of interior and exterior additions, as well as a limited production run of just 24 units.
Finished in Aston’s take on the iconic British Racing Green hue, the special touches outside consists out of a gloss carbon fibre roof and bonnet vents, bronze detailing on the grille, around the Superleggra badge, Q fender badges and Aston Martin script on the boot and bronze brake calipers.
Inside, the DBS 59 gets an Obsidian Black and Chestnut Tan leather finish, fabrics claimed to have been inspired by those used on the DBR1 for the doors and seat backs, bronze gear shift paddles, a 1-24 commemorative white roundel, bronze DBS 59 embossed seatbacks and green inserts.
Capping off the changes are bespoke DBS 59 branded helmets, period blue race suits and string-backed gloves modelled on those used by Shelby, which are stored in a specially designed rear compartment trimmed in Saddle Leather, and a two-piece luggage set mirroring the colour of the interior.
Up front, DBS 59 remains unchanged from its standard sibling, with the AMG-sourced 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 continuing to produce 533kW/900Nm, and which is hooked to a ZF-sourced eight-speed Touchtronic gearbox. Top speed is rated at 339km/h with the 0-100km/h dash taking 3.4 seconds.
