KAROO NEWS - The Cape Town Weather Office has issued an Impact-Based Warning for extreme veld fire conditions affecting parts of the Western Cape and Namaqua Region of the Northern Cape from 3 March until 4 March.
Impact-based warnings
Hot temperatures, dry conditions, and strong winds may lead to the rapid development and spread of veld and bushfires. The extreme fire danger index (FDI above 75) increases the risk of runaway fires, which can cause significant damage to property and pose a threat to human and animal life.

- Breede Valley
- Cederberg
- Drakenstein
- Hantam
- Kannaland
- Karoo Hoogland
- Khâi-Ma
- Laingsburg
- Oudtshoorn
- Prince Albert
- Swartland
Urgent Precautionary Measures:
- All personnel and equipment must be removed from open fields.
- Fire teams, labour, and equipment must be placed on full standby.
- Immediate action must be taken at the first sign of smoke.
- All available firefighting aircraft and resources must be deployed without delay.
The Cape Town Weather Office urges residents, landowners, and emergency personnel to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to prevent and respond to potential fires. Report any signs of smoke or fire immediately to local authorities.
