GEORGE NEWS - Workers of Distriliq are back at work after a salary and bonus dispute between the union Ichawu (Independent Commercial Hospitality and Allied Workers Union) and management of Distriliq was resolved on Monday 16 December.
"The company came with a settlement offer which was accepted," said Dale Fish of Ichawu. "It is a good offer and we want to thank the employer for the offer and showing willingness to resolve the dispute, so we thank them and look forward fostering a healthy and sound relationship going forward."
A minimum wage offer was accepted, as well as the 13th cheque bonus for December and January. Fish said everyone is back at work and the union hopes that no victimisation from either side - management or workforce - will take place.
Negotiations followed after a group of about 50 workers, among them drivers, general workers, supervisors and telesales personnel, were about to embark on a legal protected strike on Saturday 14 December.
The workers were refused entrance to Steinhoff Industrial Park, where Distriliq is situated. The strike was planned for 09:00 and some still had to clock in a few hours before the strike. However, they could not enter the premises and had to wait outside the gates at the business park for further instruction from their union.
