GEORGE NEWS - The upgrade of the Thembalethu sport facility has been completed and it now boasts a new sport hall/clubhouse and three 36-seater steel structure pavilions at the soccer and rugby fields.
Many local teams will resume their training sessions at the improved sports ground.
The new clubhouse will accommodate boxing, karate, fitness or wellness classes and sport meetings.
During George Herald's initial visit last year, the secretary of the Thembalethu Sport Committee, Castro Fuba, said that the field had become so bad that no official Safa League games were scheduled to be played there.
The projects have been jointly funded by the Integrated Urban Development Grant (IUDG) and the George Municipality.
According to Fuba, the new facilities will cater only for sport activities and will be monitored and managed by the Thembalethu Sport Committee.
The manager of sport in the George Municipality, Granville Campher, says that the Thembalethu Sport Committee was formed in accordance with the municipality's sport policy to ensure that the sport community has a common voice representing their needs.

The committee assists the municipality in managing the facility to the benefit of users. With the input received from the community, particularly the sports ends user, the municipality can systematically address the sport infrastructure backlogs and expansion requirements.
