GEORGE NEWS - A radiant Géla le Roux from George was crowned Mrs SA first princess 2017 in a glittering ceremony at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg on Friday 17 November.
Géla, the brand ambassador of Fancourt, is an audiometrist and co-owner of the Hearing Aid Direct franchise in George.
Shortly after the ceremony Géla told the George Herald, "It has been a fantastic experience. I would never have come this far if it wasn't for the support and encouragement from the people of George. I owe you all a special thanks."
The Mrs SA 2017 title went to Nicole Capper from Fourways in Johannesburg and second princess Mankoana Nhlebela is also from Johannesburg.
Miss South Africa first princess Adé van Heerden, from Herold's Bay, represented South Africa at the Miss World beauty pageant in Sanya, China on Saturday 18 November. She was placed in the top 10 finalists, but unfortunately didn't make the top five.
Lieutenant van Heerden, a medical doctor at 2 Military hospital in Cape Town, won the Beauty with a Purpose prize at the event. India's Manushi Chhillar, the fifth Miss India since the inception of the contest in 1952, was crowned Miss World 2017. The first and the second runners-up were Miss England Stephanie Hill and Miss Mexico Andrea Meza.
Miss SA 2017, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, is a firm favourite to take the Miss Universe crown which is currently underway at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Demi-Leigh and the 96 other contestants are in the final throes of their preparation for the finale that takes place on Sunday 26 November. Miss South Africa is strongly tipped for the win along with Miss Philippines, Miss Mexico, Miss Iceland and Miss Vietnam.
