GEORGE NEWS - The stormy weather conditions and strong winds that passed through George from Sunday night till early this morning led to falling trees and branches with resultant damage to property and power outages.
Gusts of up to 81km/h were experienced in the Witfontein area and at George Airport up to 79km/h. Parts of Heather Park and Heatherlands have been without power since Sunday night. It is unsure if this has been repaired.
Two homeowners in Camphersdrift Road suffered damage to property after a giant tree snapped in two and fell on their boundary fences. According to one of the owners, who wants to remain anonymous, it caused damage to a flat on one of the properties.
The occupants of one of the homes were unable to leave their property as the tree had fallen right onto their vehicle entrance gate.
A total of 50mm of rain was measured at Witfontein in the 24 hours up until 08:00 this morning and the South African Weather Services (Saws) is predicting an 80% chance for further showers today.
A 60% likelihood for rain is forecast for tomorrow, but the weather will clear up from Wednesday onwards with partly cloudy conditions and lovely mild temperatures from Thursday and into the weekend.
In the Little Karoo, Meiringspoort was closed this morning due to heavy rain. According to Saws, 23mm was recorded in Oudtshoorn and 17mm in Prins Albert (Swartrivier) in the 24 hours up to 08:00 this morning.
