GEORGE NEWS - The much-anticipated Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge (OCC) is set to take place on Saturday 15 March - but they need more volunteers.
As one of the most inspiring wheelchair races in the world, the OCC brings together athletes of all abilities to compete, challenge themselves, and celebrate resilience.
Held at the Carpe Diem school grounds in George, this event is a highlight on the sporting calendar and a true display of determination and community spirit.
How you can help
OCC organisers are calling on volunteers to assist in various roles to ensure a smooth and memorable event. Whether you can spare a few hours or the entire day, your support will make a huge difference.
Opportunities include:
- Pushers for the 5km Fun Race: Help athletes enjoy the thrill of the race by assisting them along the route.
- Marshalls on the route: Ensure the safety of participants and maintain the race flow.
- Motivational points: Cheer on athletes and keep their spirits high throughout the event.
- Refreshment tables: Help distribute water and refreshments to keep participants hydrated and energised.
- Venue setup and breakdown: Assist with logistics by setting up the venue on Friday and packing up after the event.
Volunteer registration details
Volunteers can register on Friday 14 March, between 11:00 and 18:00 at the Carpe Diem school grounds.
