GEORGE NEWS - The man who was arrested on Monday 10 June in Thembalethu in connection with the brutal killing of a female dog the previous evening, will appear in court again on 12 September. The autopsy report and photos were still outstanding at his last court appearance.
When the George Herald enquired about the progress of the case this week, detective commander Lieut-Col Eric Julies confirmed that the investigation is now complete.
The suspect, Lindile Gibe (21), who made his first appearance in court on Wednesday 12 June, has been in custody since his arrest.
On the day of the incident, Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) field inspector Vanessa Lucas and GRSPCA general manager Salomé Bruyns arrived on scene to find the dog dead and partially skinned.
According to Bruyns there was a rope tied around the dog's right leg and the left leg was already removed. The animal's throat was also slit.
The dog's body and her eight puppies, who were still alive, were subsequently removed and taken to the SPCA. A case of animal cruelty was opened and the suspect was arrested the following day. The puppies have since all been adopted.
