GEORGE NEWS - Life Community Services has had to adapt to the lockdown regulations, but is still supplying meals to children in the underprivileged communities where possible.
The organisation has been feeding up to 1 000 children daily for almost two decades and they are doing what they can to keep up this service, according to director Sally Versveld.
They have had to temporarily lay off 41 staff members. "We registered them for UIF for April for in case their payments can't be met," said Versveld.
"We have five designated, registered staff on duty for driving and two ladies for sorting donations at the kitchen. We operate and pack from home. They collect, receive donations, go to our kitchen, sort and deliver to nine points in the community where our staff live."
She said they make sure to practise social distancing while distributing food and other essentials.
"We are working from home and responding to calls, medical needs, etc. and our overheads remain the same. There is a lot of administration and paperwork from government and the local municipality to be processed. We are busy and very focused on our nation's needs.
"Please pray for us at Life. We need each other right now. God is up to something so big and we will stand and see the goodness of the Lord. Please stay safe in these troubled times."
