GEORGE NEWS - George libraries celebrated the start of Library Week by issuing new library cards to patrons last weekend.
George Library hosted different organisations such as the Chess for Hope Club and George Philatelic Society with displays of their work and informative talks.
Libraries manager Rachel Williams said library officials made 150 Library Week bookmarks and handed these out to attendees.
George Library also had an information table for member recruitment and received 22 new applications. The library introduced the newly printed library cards with updated branding of the George Municipality.
Organisations
The Chess for Hope Club held a brief talk about the benefits of playing chess and played games at the library.
The George Philatelic Society exhibited a stunning display in the library and held an information session about stamps.
Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre was also in attendance and gave talks about birdlife. The George Arts Theatre spoke to guests and patrons about the arts and upcoming shows.
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) hosted a display and discussion around their services.
Oudtshoorn Author Glen Snyman was part of the day and donated two copies of his book, The blind man's race to the library.
Other representatives of organisations were Corney Brink of the Garden Route Botanical Garden, Gerda Stols of the George flower club, Wilkie Barkheizen of the Genealogy Society and Friends of the Toll House.
Youngsters and adults played chess with Chess for Hope Club.
