GEORGE NEWS - Georgians are invited to support a two-hour cleanup of the Kat River that feeds directly into our main water source, the Garden Route Dam, tomorrow, Saturday 7 June.
The event is hosted by the Garden Route Dam Action Group (Gardag) in celebration of World Environment Day that was on 5 June.
It will take place from 09:00-11:00. The meeting point is Charlotte Street, Denneoord, next to Môreson School.
"This is a great opportunity for residents, schools, families, and businesses to roll up their sleeves and help restore the health of our precious river and protect the integrity of our water source," says Gardag chairperson Desireé du Preez.
"We’ll provide garbage bags, tongs, and drinking water. Volunteers can just bring their enthusiasm, gumboots and gloves."
Why your involvement matters
Du Preez encourages citizens to get involved because the Kat River is vital to the health of the dam.
"It needs our collective care. By taking part in these events, you're actively helping protect our local water sources, wildlife, and natural beauty for generations to come.
"Gardag wishes to increase awareness of the sensitive water ecosystems in the George area and would like to see as many people as possible to join us tomorrow for a grand community effort," says Du Preez.
