GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality’s Tourism Section hosted its annual Events Compliance Workshop on 11 February, drawing 62 stakeholders and municipal officials involved in planning and hosting events across the city.
The workshop aimed to give event organisers clear guidance on permit requirements, application deadlines and compliance procedures to ensure events are safe and properly managed.
Event organisers were also reminded that the current Call for Event Support closes on 22 February.
Representatives from several municipal departments – including Sports Development, Town Planning, Traffic Services, Municipal Venues and Facilities, Tourism, and the Garden Route District Municipality’s Environmental Health Section – presented on key requirements.
Environmental Health officials, in particular, highlighted health and hygiene standards for events where food vendors operate.
The Sports Development Section noted that while many facilities are multi-purpose, access is currently limited to season-specific sporting codes to help reduce water consumption until league seasons conclude.
Stakeholders were reminded to adhere to application lead times for population certificates, posters and banners, and noise exemptions.
Event organisers are encouraged to register on the municipal events database via the George Tourism Office.
The municipality also announced its transition to a new regional online events portal, Collaborator, which will streamline future permit applications.
