GEORGE NEWS - Their excellent work in arresting six suspects allegedly linked to extortion in the construction industry ensured that police officers from George and the Garden Route Intervention Team received the Catch of the Year award at this year's glitzy annual police Garden Route District Prestige Awards in Mossel Bay on Friday 29 November.
Throughout the evening, George continued to shine, bagging several other awards.

The winning Detective and Forensic Team of the Year is also from George Police Station. In second place was a combination of officers from Conville, Thembalethu, the Serious Corruption Investigations Unit, Serious Commercial Crime Investigations Unit, the Vehicle Crime Investigations Unit, Garden Route district area office and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).
George also walked away with two places in the Detective and Forensic Employee of the Year (level 5 - 7) award with Sergeant Nathan Buys and Warrant Officer John Boezak in second and third places.
The Vispol and Operations team of the year was won by a team from Ladismith, while the District Operational Command Centre (DOCC) in George claimed second place and Herold Police Station third place. The Vispol and Operations Employee of the Year (level 5-7) went to Sergeant Eslin Kammies from George, with Sergeant Michael Opperman of the Garden Route District offices in third place.
Thembalethu Police Station members, Sergeant Olivia van Rooyen, Warrant Officer Frank Goliath, Warrant Officer Samuel Gawie and Sergeant Trevor Lindoor.
The level 8-12 category was won by Colonel Brandon Moses from George, while Conville's Vispol commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mzwanele Nontsasa, took third place in this category.
Not only did our officers walk away with a heap of awards, but it was proven that George also has the best men. Three members from the area were awarded for Man of the Year.
In first place was Sergeant Michael Opperman of the Garden Route District offices, second place went to Constable Alshandrè Louw from George and in third place was Sergeant Nathan Buys, also from George.
Sergeant Ron-Mari Boshoff of Uniondale Police Station won the Woman of the Year award.
The reservist of the year is none other than Pacaltsdorp's very own Nico Luiters, and in the admin department, George also came out tops with RSC Floors earning second place and SE Williams getting third in the Administration Employee of the Year (level 1- 4), while A Swiegelaar got a second place in the level 8 - 12 category.
The George Human Resource Management team won Administration Team of the Year, with Oudtshoorn coming second, and Thembalethu Police Station third.
The Station of the Year is also from our midst, as no other than Conville Police Station was awarded with this great achievement.
