GEORGE NEWS - A major shift in local healthcare services is under way as Garden Route Radiology begins the complex process of relocating its operations to the new Mediclinic hospital.
The move will impact how and where patients access critical diagnostic services in the coming weeks.
According to the practice manager, Mikael Coquiller, the first major step in the move took place on Monday 16 March, when the first X-ray machine at the casualty department was de-installed and relocated.
A second phase of equipment movement is expected from 24 March when the CT and MRI scanners will also be relocated.
“While these milestones signal the start of the transition, patients are assured that most of the services will remain available throughout. We are doing our utmost to maintain services in the current Mediclinic till the last day and being ready when the new Mediclinic hospital opens,” says Coquiller.
Only one CT scanner and one MRI scanner will be available during the relocation period and located at the Outpatient Imaging Centre, next to the current Mediclinic hospital (4 Gloucester Lane), therefore priority will be given to emergency cases which may lead to a longer waiting period for certain examinations.
During this initial phase, radiology services can still be accessed at the current hospital or at the Outpatient Imaging Centre, and patients are advised to attend appointments at their usual location unless informed otherwise.
The relocation is being carried out in stages to minimise disruption and ensure continuity of care. As different machines and services are moved, patients will need to take note of updated information regarding where specific examinations will be conducted.
