GEORGE NEWS - A case was lodged with the police following a housebreaking and theft that occurred at a residential property on Buxton Close, Wilderness, on the evening of 5 December.
According to information received, the suspects forced open the home’s security sliding doors with a crowbar and stole several valuable items, including important personal documents.
Despite the quick response by the Wilderness Defence Force’s (WDF) security officers, who arrived on the scene within eight minutes, the suspects fled in a red vehicle. A vehicle believed to be linked to the incident was tracked along the N2 using advanced camera systems, and was later stopped near Knysna. However, no stolen items were recovered, and the driver could not be directly linked to the break-in.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the CCTV footage from the property captured clear facial images of at least one suspect, and that one of the stolen items, a laptop, was traced to an address in Knysna.
Further details indicate that one of the suspects identified in the footage is a known offender who is reportedly due to appear in court on 16 February for an unrelated matter. This has raised questions as to why the individual has not been arrested, given the CCTV evidence placing him on the scene.

It is understood that the vehicle’s driver was taken into custody for lacking valid immigration papers.
A media enquiry requesting clarity on the investigation was sent to the Southern Cape Police’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie. At the time of going to press, no response had been received.
