GEORGE NEWS - George Library's event "Make Your Mark" recently kicked off with the launch of the book Who are you? by Dr Mosiua N Ngaka in the library's foyer.
The event served as a platform for writers to read from their books and answer questions readers might have.
During all his years of research and studies, Ngaka pursued several jobs including a messenger, provincial inspector, administrative clerk, liaison officer, teacher, principal and mentor of principals in the Free State. He is currently the director of the Department of Home Affairs in George.
The connection between Ngaka and the George Library started in 2015 when he frequently visited the reference section to study and work on his thesis on indigenous knowledge. His book is dedicated to his late mother, Matefo Emily Maieane-Ngaka, who was born with many spiritual talents and gifts.
A signed copy of the book will be part of the collection of the George Library. The book is available from the author and on Amazon.
For the people, a book by former Outeniqua High learner Anelia Schutte, who currently works in New York, was re-launched during a recent visit.
Authors reading aloud
In mid-November local authors such as Chris Karsten, Hannes Visser and Archie Swanson read their work at the George Library, in celebration of their commitment to the Make Your Mark project for more than five years.
Michele Damstra, author and facilitator, presented a writer's workshop inside the George Library on 19 November.
The library space was again transformed into an inspiring space. Every writer from the heart - and that includes all human beings - could feel safe and nurtured to take up a pen and let the creative juices flow.
Readers can also have a look at the biography of Charlize Theron by Chris Karsten, a 2009 publication in Afrikaans that has been translated into English: Charlize-Life's one helluva ride.
George community members are encouraged to visit the building in Caledon Street. They might be surprised by unexpected visitors and services.
