GEORGE NEWS - SaveWild is hosting an interesting talk titled 'The journey of water through The Wilderness', on Tuesday 16 July.
Mark Dixon, a marine biologist from the Wilderness with global experience and owner of Garden Route Trail, will give a presentation about water security for both riverine and marine conservation.
The event will take place at the Fairy Knowe Hotel starting at 17:30 for 18:00 and to be concluded at around 19:00.
There will also be feedback on the development on erf 1297, Kleinkrantz, where an eco-estate development has been approved by the Garden Route District Municipality.
Mark, a qualified marine biologist, has worked in environmental positions globally as a CCAMLR Scientific Observer in the Ross Sea, Antarctica, and on a Jaguar Project with Conservation International in the Pantanal, Brazil.
He is an avid hiker who has hiked in several countries, including the USA and Canadian Rockies, the Chilean, Bolivian and Peruvian Andes, Nepalese Himalaya's, New Zealand Alps as well as the Drakensberg, Swartberg and Outeniqua mountain ranges.
Being an astute naturalist and an active field researcher (ornithologist, marine biologist and ichnologist), he is a great source of scientific information and personal observations.
He has initiated the Strandloper Project to research ghost fishing from snagged recreational fishing tackle in the Garden Route.
SaveWild, started by Mike and Romy von der Heyde, is aimed at engaging residents of the greater Wilderness area in protecting its natural spaces and assisting its local communities for a thriving Wilderness.
Persons interested to attend the event are kindly requested to RSVP by 14 July to info@savewild.co.za.
