GEORGE NEWS - On Friday night, 1 August, Blanco wasn't haunted.
It was spirited, as it seemed all of George came out for the ultra fun Blanco Neighbourhood Watch Ghost Walk.
At just R20 per ghost passport, it truly was affordable family fun, albeit in the spooky shadows.
Starting at Blanco Primary School, participants were split into colour-coded groups and guided along a winding route through the neighbourhood, with stops at six properties rumoured to be haunted by ghosts. The organisers brought their A game with ghoulish props and sound effects to boost the tour guides' ghost story telling abilities.
Each participant received a card that had to be stamped at every haunted stop - and used to guess which of the ghost stories were true. Enthusiastic ghoul scouts were dead set on finishing the task.
From the laughing children at Blanco Primary to the haunted orchard, the whispering garden, mushroom madness, the forgotten room in Boshoff Street, and the engineer's echo at Fancourt Manor, there were spooktacular surprises at every turn. The children's screams and belly laughter were a testament to that. The fact that the results of which ghost stories were true weren't widely announced after the walk only added to the mystery and legend of what skeletons might be buried in Blanco's closet.
Cotton candy, spooky music, boerie rolls and glow sticks added a healthy dose of theatrics, contributing to the evening's success - especially for restless spirits dying to get out and have some freaky Friday fun.
Along the route, participants had to decide which of the ghost stories they thought were true.
