GEORGE NEWS - A final decision regarding the venue for the Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge (OCC) 2020 will likely be taken in the next week. Questions have been asked about the suitability of the current venue at Halfway Toyota in Courtney Street.
The matter was raised on Wednesday by municipal portfolio councillor Iona Kritzinger during this year’s first meeting of the OCC organising committee. A lively discussion followed and other participants also agreed that the possibility of another venue must be investigated. Carpe Diem School was mentioned as a possibility.
The event takes place in just over four weeks, on 15 February, with the George Municipality as main sponsor contributing R500 000.
The events director, Alewijn Dippenaar, said a final decision would likely be taken in the next week.
Dippenaar also announced that prize moneys for this year’s event have been raised.
Dippenaar told the George Herald that the main reasons for looking at other venues are accessibility and space, including parking.
Dippenaar also announced that prize moneys for this year’s event have been raised.
