GEORGE NEWS - A 44-year-old man from Thembalethu was arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Friday 11 February, after an illegal firearm and six rounds of ammunition were confiscated from his garage.
Later the same day the Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team, members of the Rural Flying Squad and provincial traffic officials deployed on the N9, spotted a known high-flyer.
His vehicle was pulled over and searched and 45 small packets of tik, 78 packets of dagga, one dagga parcel and 29 dagga stoppe were found. The suspect (27) was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
On Saturday, at a roadblock on the N9, the same team stopped a minibus taxi that was en route to the Langkloof.
“Upon searching the vehicle the police found 10 kilograms of dagga and 50 grams of tik with an estimated combined value of R25 000. This consignment was later linked to a passenger on board, who was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs,” said Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies.
During an operation to close down police illegal liquor outlets in George and Uniondale, Conville police arrested two suspects, aged 35 and 51, on charges of selling liquor without a licence.
All arrested are expected to make their first court appearances in various courts in the region today, Monday 14 February.
