GEORGE NEWS - The police this week confirmed that a warrant of arrest has been issued for the missing businesswoman from George, Bonnie Brink-Lawrence (62).
Brink-Lawrence was reported missing by her husband, Quentin, on 15 January after she failed to meet him at the Home Affairs office in York Street.
According to the provincial police spokesperson, Lt Col Malcolm Pojie, investigation into the fraud cases is at a sensitive stage, but progress had been made.
"A warrant for the arrest for Bonnie Brink-Lawrence has been issued by the court. The investigation team works in close collaboration with other police agencies to trace the wanted suspect."
Pojie said that the fraud investigation runs parallel with the missing person report that was lodged at the Pacaltsdorp Police.
Millions missing
Six fraud cases have been opened by Georgians alleging that large sums of their investment money went missing. Added together, these amounts add up to millions of rands.
All the investors’ stories are similar. It tells the story of a charming person who befriended them, gained their trust, and convinced them to invest their money offshore through her company - someone who infiltrated a certain circle of friends, all of whom are successful in their own right. She would wine and dine her clients while slowly reeling them in.
Police in an earlier statement confirmed that Garden Route District detectives are investigating six cases of fraud. Five cases were opened in Pacaltsdorp and one in Conville. The first case was reported on 23 December 2023.
