These were the words of Executive Mayor Charles Standers at the opening of the new Pacaltsdorp and Thembalethu tourism offices on Heritage Day.
"Tourism is the key economic driver of the region. To ensure that the economic spin-off of tourism is extended to all the areas of George, council has opened these two state-of-the-art satellite offices." Standers added that he is confident the residents will utilise the services and proximity of the offices to showcase the rich culture and heritage of the area.
In Thembalethu the group visited the Loxion.
Lounge, a popular local eatery, and the Thembalethu Bed and Breakfast. In Pacaltsdorp, Former Eden District and Pacaltsdorp Mayor Andy Lamont led a walkabout through central Pacaltsdorp visiting the giant Cape ash tree, where Kaptein Dikkop held council two centuries ago, and the popular stone church built by the Christian missionaries, who settled in the area in the 1800s.
Lamont, who has been involved in Pacaltsdorp and its tourism for many years, says the challenge is to get the visitors to cross the N2 into Pacaltsdorp.
