GEORGE NEWS - GEORGE NEWS - The construction work on the upper floor of the OK Bazaar building in Meade Street to accommodate 190 staff members of the Tekkie Town head office is nearing completion.
According to Tekkie Town CEO Riaan van Rooyen, the finishing touches will be completed soon and then they are on track to move in at the end of October. The exact date is to be confirmed.
Van Rooyen said the two distribution centres at their current Meul Street premises will remain in use.
Earlier this year he said Pepkor, Tekkie Town's holding company, would be investigating options for the use of the office space to be vacated for the remaining period of the rental contract. It lapses in 2025.
Former Tekkie Town CEO Bernard Mostert commented as follows, “It is not true that there is a lease agreement in place and we have long ago commenced legal action against Pepkor regarding their unlawful occupation of these properties. The legal action is aimed to evict Pepkor from these premises and to recover damages suffered in this process.
“With regard to the lawsuits to recover Tekkie Town, we are highly confident that we will recover our defrauded business in due course and have made significant progress in this process by obtaining an interdict against Pepkor’s parent company Steinhoff in terms of Tekkie Town. By now it is common cause that Steinhoff was the largest corporate fraud in South African history. Pepkor’s own management - including several of those who now run Tekkie Town - are participants in lawsuits against Steinhoff regarding this fraud and they too want to recover their losses.
“When we return to the Tekkie Town campus after our success in court our staff will once again be able to enjoy the many facilities that was purpose built for the people of George and the employees of Tekkie Town including a state of the art Crossfit Box, a cafeteria, an auditorium and an after-school care centre.”
