As fellow passenger Charné Writes stepped onto the tarmac, her boyfriend, Herman Augustyn, awaited her on bended knee to propose to his sweetheart.
Charné and Herman (both 24), were classmates at Outeniqua High School and matriculated in 2008. Charné, who went off to study at North-West University (Pukke) is now a teacher at Fairland Primary School in Johannesburg.
After school Herman joined a flight school in George and qualified as a pilot. He now lives in Pretoria, but is on a temporary contract in George doing aerial photography.
Herman was determined to make his proposal something special. He secretly asked Charné's parents, Tim and Daleen Writes who live in Johannesburg, for their blessing and then put his plan into action.
"During our 15 month relationship we spent lots of time at airports due to my line of work; always picking up and dropping off; great airport hellos and sad goodbyes. My plan was to propose to her at George Airport. I got the necessary permission from the authorities and arranged for the love of my life to fly down and join me for the weekend."
The couple have set their wedding date for July next year and they promise it won’t be in an airport hanger.

Herman says that this Kulula flight was very important to him. He is over the moon and thanks Kulula for making it possible.
