GEORGE NEWS - Architect Bill Farrenkothen and draughtsman Heno Bosman echo Reinhard Retief's sentiments of welcoming an affordable-housing project like Village Ridge in the King George area where units will be as tiny as 44m². They are excited that this will be a development that will be "unclassified in all forms" for the lower-income earner.
Says Farrenkothen, "George is overloaded by a populace that is growing exponentially. Coherent planning is important and access to work is one of the essentials in town planning. The key is that when someone buys a property, he creates a legacy and will look after it. This negates the argument that a resident in such a development will neglect his property."
Bosman says with the growing lower and middle income group there is a significant number of people who would like to invest in a property in the proposed development.
"It makes sense that people should be closer to their work and industry. Opposition to the spatial development framework's proposals of integration is based on ignorance that eventually gets expression in racism."
