GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - Ordinary magic is making inroads in the lives of many children all over George. For as JK Rowling said, "Something very magical can happen when you read a good book."
The George Herald Ordinary Magic for Madiba reading campaign has received a welcome cash injection thanks to Aurecon George that donated R5 000 for reading aids towards the pre-school reading centres in town. Aurecon is also collecting books to keep the reading material fresh and exciting.
The campaign was launched on Mandela Day in 2017, and since then five reading centres have been established at crèches in Thembalethu, Rosedale and Blanco.
Early childhood development expert Werna Pretorius has trained crèche employees and volunteers in the fine art of captivating the attention of tiny tots through books.
Earlier this year, Oakhurst Insurance and Glenwood College donated R6 000 that they generated at the George Herald Run with the Stars 2017 event.

The money is put to excellent use and the reading centres have been kitted out with bright educational posters, mats, huge puzzles and tables and chairs, while readers donated books, soft toys and cushions.

Library books are also available to the centres through the cooperation of the George Municipality.
