GEORGE NEWS - George Junior Council members distinguished themselves at the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) Youth Programme in Cape Town on Saturday 27 July.
Not only was Speaker Justin Yawe chosen to represent WCPP in Rwanda, but the female representative, Jalaser Bosman, was second in the top 10 youth leaders at the event.
Justin and Jalaser, learners at York High in Grade 11 and 10 respectively, were among 40 delegates from across the Western Cape who debated matters topical to youth in the province.
Justin and Rayahna Isaacs (Grade 11 Parow High School, City of Cape Town Junior Council) were elected by an adjudication panel to represent the WCPP at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Youth Parliament continental event in Kigali, Rwanda from 5 to 9 September. In addition, Jalaser was placed second female leader among the event's top 10 (five male and five female).
George Cllr Liza Stroebel, who oversees the junior council and accompanied Justin and Jalaser to Cape Town, was delighted and proud of the two teenagers who represented their city with such class. "They truly stood out as confident, well-spoken and well-mannered young people."
George Mayor Melvin Naik was also very pleased and congratulated Justin and Jalaser with their great achievement.
The youth leaders also met Western Cape Parliament Speaker Masizole Mnqasela, Deputy Speaker Beverley Schafer and secretary Romeo Adams.
