GEORGE NEWS - Years of struggling to gain access to their properties, especially on rainy days, have come to an end for residents living adjacent to the 240m dirt road linking Fountain Avenue and East Street in Pacaltsdorp, as George Municipality upgraded the dirt road with paving.
According to Deputy Director for Streets and Stormwater Lionel Daniels, the situation worsened during heavy rains to a point where it became unbearable.
"We have prioritised the upgrade for the 2022/23 financial year, and the road was upgraded to a concrete interlocking paved road," he said.
"As part of the upgrade, the steep cross fall towards the properties was flattened with the introduction of a retaining structure on the southern side of the road and the associated drainage issues were also addressed."
George Mayor Leon van Wyk commended the Civil Engineering Services Department for paving the small street.
He visited the completed street upgrade during a series of visits to Civil Engineering Services Department projects.
He was accompanied by Portfolio Councillor Jacqulique von Brandis, Portfolio Councillor Browen Johnson and Director of Civil Engineering Services Jannie Koegelenberg.
