GEORGE NEWS - Eugéne Rautenbach was elected as new vice-chairperson for the George Community Police Forum (CPF) at a special general meeting (SGM) held on Thursday 19 April in the George Civic Centre.
Rautenbach is well-known and active in safety, security and rescue operation circles in and around George. He is a member of the Wilderness NSRI station 23, Denneoord Neighbourhood Watch's public relations officer and chairman of the sector 2 CPF.
The next round of elections for CPFs in the Western Cape will take place next year. George CPF will elect a complete executive committee, who will then stay in office for five years.
Crime in George
During the meeting, Lieutenant-Colonel Elmarie van der Westhuysen said that crime in George is generally low and compared to other provinces, this is indeed paradise.
She added that during March no murders or attempted murders were reported in the George precinct, but that common assault and theft are becoming a challenge.
"The George CPF and police are requesting residents to become involved in combating crime so that we can keep our city a safe place and not become like other towns and cities in the country. Stop crime before it becomes a huge problem," she said.
"Please join your local neighbourhood watch as a spotter or even a patroller. Attend meetings concerning community safety where you can lay complaints and ask for feedback."
The George CPF always tries to get different role players like the police, provincial traffic department, municipal traffic department, law enforcement, the justice and constitutional development department and the social development department to attend their meetings. They also invite any other interested parties to join their next meeting.
Members of the executive committee and police force at the meeting are, front from left: Jonathan Gelderbloem (CPF), Ronelle Bezuidenhout (chairperson) and Eugéne Rautenbach (newly elected vice-chairperson). Back: Brig Phindelwa Mavakala-Ncamani (George police), Sgt Michael Opperman (George police), Lieut-Col Elmarie van der Westhuysen (George police), Anzell Fourie (CPF), Bennie Engelbrecht (CPF) and André Olivier (CPF).
