GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - This year's Garden Route Walking Festival again takes place during the Easter long weekend and this year there are two interesting walks, organised by the Great Brak River Museum.
On Saturday, 20 April, drive or walk to and visit the last remaining hydro power station and more.
After the power station visit, you can return or continue the walk to the Wolwedans Dam wall (2.5km), and to finish, take the 230 metres of steps to the viewing platform.
Finally, you may walk the interesting (downhill) road back to Great Brak (8.7km) or catch a pre-arranged ride back.

On Monday, 22 April, the well-known Easter 4km historic Walk and Talk will take place. This is especially for those who would like to get to know Great Brak River's history. The theme is: Walking Over and Under our Historic Bridges.

The flat, 4km Walking Over and Under our Historic Bridges is suitable for both young and old. Walkers will go over and under the Bridges of Great Brak River, ending on the Great Brak River Island. Return the same way or via the other side of the estuary.
On the way, you will learn interesting facts about the bridges of Great Brak River, both ancient and modern, the village history, see the historic buildings at its centre and visit the ancient Mossienes sea bed.
See the site of the old village bakery and Cecile's herb garden. Discover the unfolding of the river formation and its changing history.
Learn about 30 years of village wool washing and its demise with the opening of the railway station in 1906. This year discover something more about the ichnology which is making the coastline famous. The hydro power station walk is slightly more difficult. Wear good hiking boots.
