GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route Botanical Garden (GRBG) is hosting the very first Garden Roots Expo on Friday and Saturday, 26 and 27 October. Similar to the Chelsea Flower Show, there will be mini gardens created by some of the prominent landscapers, and nurseries from the Garden Route will showcase their work.
Organiser Priscilla Burgoyne, curator of the herbarium at the garden said, "We plan to make this an annual event and the idea is to focus on making your garden your piece of Shangri-La. The expo will coincide with the annual GRBG spring sale at the nursery where really affordable indigenous plants will be on sale".
The expo will also feature the annual Wildflower Show, done in conjunction with the George flower arrangers who helped make last year's show spectacular. "Local musicians will provide live music throughout the day and a themed art exhibition will be held - focusing on nature and plants / animals. This region of the country is not named the Garden Route for nothing.
Visitors are certain to be impressed by what can be achieved, even in small gardens.
Talks on garden ideas by engaging guest speakers will also be on the agenda, while the "hards" of gardening such as pots, paving and other gardening paraphernalia, will also be showcased," said Burgoyne.
"We hope to show how everyone can create their own piece (peace) of heaven, no matter what the size of your garden."
The expo will be held at the GRBG at 49 Caledon Street in George. Time: Friday 08:30 to 17:00 and Saturday 08:30 to 14:30.
