Update
GEORGE NEWS - In May this year, Zara and 59 other emaciated boerboels were confiscated by the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) from an unethical breeding facility near Hartenbos. And Zara is one of the lucky ones.
She has made an astounding transformation from a bag of bones to a healthy happy girl and was adopted by the Meyer family from George two months after she and the other dogs were rescued from atrocious living conditions where they were purely used for breeding.
The GRSPCA discovered and confiscated 60 emaciated and severely neglected boerboels at the facility.
The dogs were in a shocking condition due to a lack of proper care, feeding and shelter, and many suffered from hip dysplasia.
The owner of the facility is now facing several charges of animal cruelty under the Animals Protection Act No 71 of 1962, including the failure to provide the animals in his care with sufficient food and necessary veterinary care.

He is also charged for surgically mutilating the tails of the puppies that they were selling (tail docking). Tail docking is illegal in South Africa.
Zara is one of the lucky dogs who were saved and nurtured back to health by the GRSPCA.
"With her floppy ears, drooling cheeks and soft heart, she managed to secure a forever place in our family and in our hearts," said Zara's new human mom, Monique Meyer.
The facility's owner made his first court appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court in September. The case will continue on 16 January.
To those who hurt me before, I am doing great now, just by the way. Kind regards, Zara.
