Following concerns raised by readers about access to businesses, and delays along the N9 between Waboomskraal and the Oudtshoorn turn-off, clarity has been provided on the ongoing roadworks in the area.
Authorities have confirmed that only six controlled blasting operations are planned along this section of the N9, taking place between mid-March and the end of May. Blasting will not occur daily, and dates will be communicated well in advance.
During these operations, a section of the road will be temporarily closed to traffic between 14:00 and 17:00.
The next scheduled blasting is set to take place on 9 April, during which time motorists should plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays.
On all other days, the road will remain open to traffic. However, a stop-and-go system will be in place, with waiting periods expected to be around 10 minutes.
Importantly, roadside businesses, including the popular Roadside Deli and various farm stalls along the route, will remain fully accessible during both the blasting periods and stop-and-go operations.
Road works are expected to continue until 2028.
Road users are urged to remain patient and cautious when travelling through the construction zone, and to adhere to all signage and instructions from traffic officials to ensure the safety of both workers and fellow motorists.
