GEORGE NEWS - For Martiens Josephs (64) and his wife, Juliana (60), Friday 5 September was a day they will never forget.
The couple, now first-time homeowners, are over the moon with their new house in Rosedale. Their joy is made even greater by the thought of moving in with their three grandchildren, who will now have a safe place to call home.
The Josephs are among 30 military veterans who received houses from the Provincial Department of Human Settlements and Infrastructure during a handover ceremony.
The Rosedale development, which will eventually deliver about 15 000 units, has already provided 874 homes and 860 title deeds. The project combines the Building New Ground (fully subsidised houses), First Home Finance (partially subsidised) and Military Veterans units.
The ministerial delegation also visited the Metro Grounds Housing Project, where 322 families have already moved in.
With 632 units under construction across three phases - and nearly R192m invested - the project is on track for completion by December.

The day was filled with smiles and emotion as the families stepped into their new homes. The Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers, said it was about restoring dignity and pride to residents. "A home and a title deed give families a foundation for generations to come."
A total of 30 new homes and title deeds in George went to military veterans.
