GEORGE NEWS - Legally You, in collaboration with Pacaltsdorp Police, spearheaded a powerful one-day gender-based violence (GBV) roadshow, bringing a mobile awareness campaign to New Dawn Park, Sierrissie Street, Rosedale, and Rygerpark on Saturday 23 November.
With a focus on engaging communities directly, the roadshow moved through the neighbourhoods in convoy and made informational stops at key locations to emphasise the importance of community safety in the fight against GBV.
Residents came out in numbers to watch the procession and participate in the interactive sessions held at designated stops.
Advocates from Legally You and the Pacaltsdorp police shared vital information on reporting GBV cases and accessing resources.
Sanca Garden Route shed light on the impact of substance abuse in exacerbating domestic violence, while the LGBTQ+ Desk addressed challenges faced by the LGBTQ + community in seeking justice for GBV and domestic violence.
George Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to supporting grassroots efforts like these.
Advocate Marilyn Scheepers Olifant, speaking on behalf of Legally You, described the roadshow as a moving dialogue designed to engage the most vulnerable directly.
"We are driving through these communities today not just to raise awareness, but to ensure that our presence empowers victims to seek help and know they are not alone. Our work doesn't stop here; this is part of a larger movement to end GBV," she said.
The roadshow was supported by the George traffic department, Public Order Police, Pacaltsdorp Community Police Forum and neighbourhood watches.
