GEORGE NEWS - A Thembalethu police officer (29) was arrested yesterday, Sunday 10 November, on charges of kidnapping and sexual intimidation.
He was expected to make his first court appearance in court today, Monday 11 November.
However, according to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, the matter was not enrolled at court. He referred George Herald to the National Prosecuting Authority for clarity on the matter. The newspaper will follow this up with them for further information.
"The allegations against the police official are regarded as serious," said Spies.
"Thembalethu police management already launched an internal investigation into the allegations in terms of the Saps internal regulations."
"This investigation will run parallel with the criminal investigation," said Spies.
According to unconfirmed information, the officer was on duty when the incident occurred and was patrolling the area with his colleagues when they saw three women fighting.
The officers then allegedly loaded all three women into their vehicle to take them home.
After dropping off two of them, the officer reportedly told the third woman he would personally take her home and told her to get into his private vehicle.
Instead, he allegedly drove her to his house, locked the door, and made inappropriate advances of a sexual nature.
Fortunately, the officer was interrupted by a phone call, giving the woman an opportunity to escape.
