GEORGE NEWS - After opting to apply for bail, Constable Mpumelelo Gift Ngudwana (34) was denied bail in the George Magistrate's Court yesterday on 4 June.
His case has been postponed until Friday 20 June, for further investigation.
Ngudwana, a court orderly in George, is charged with two counts of corruption and dealing in drugs.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority's spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, the state alleges Ngudwana smuggled drugs from the court to prison using detainees as mules for the benefit of organised crime figures in prison.
This was discovered during a search of an inmate’s prison cell, and cellphone communication was discovered between the inmate and the accused.
The police conducted a trap wherein the accused was apprehended in possession of drugs and cash. He was then arrested and detained.
