GEORGE NEWS - The 34-year-old police constable who was arrested at George Court earlier today, Monday 24 March, was arrested by the Hawks on charges of corruption and dealing in drugs.
The suspect works as a court orderly.
According to Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, information was received that from 2022 until to date, a SAPS member who works at the George Magistrate's Court was dealing in drugs and involved in corrupt activities.
The suspect was allegedly receiving money for his services and smuggling drugs into the court cells for prisoners.
During the arrest, 11 Mandrax tablets, one packet of cannabis and R300 gratification were found in his possession.
The suspect is expected to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Tuesday 25 March.
