Approximately a year ago DataDot initiated a Sandwich Project to assist filling a few empty tummies.
They brought Jolene Noble – a well-known local caterer – to help.
"This Sandwich Project has been able to distribute more than 30 000 sandwiches to local crèches since September last year," explained Talitha Steenkamp, DataDot's transformation manager.
DataDot realised that an enormous demand for additional feeding programmes exist in the area - especially among three to six-year-olds. "Jolene Noble, together with her team from Jolene's Catering Services were the perfect team for this project," said Steenkamp, who further explained that this project has grown and proved to be an enormous success.
"From July this year we have agreed to more than double the number of sandwiches distributed. In fact, we will be providing more than 70 000 sandwiches for these kids this year," she added.
Sandwiches are delivered to 30 crèches in and around George on a monthly rotation basis. Currently, due to the enormous demand, some of the crèches are only visited once a month. "The aim is to increase these deliveries to twice per month. However, there is a serious need at the crèches for a more regular delivery of sandwiches."
DataDot and Jolene's Catering Services imploringly invite other companies to join their Sandwich Project. "And this is how change happens. One gesture. One person. One moment at a time," concluded Steenkamp by quoting Libba Bray, The Sweet Far Thing.
