GEORGE NEWS - Considered an emerging market with strong connections to South Africa, the Indian delegation will visit top class tourism destinations, tour the region and participate in a speed-marketing session to provide an opportunity for the local industry to showcase their products.
The representatives are hosted by George Tourism in association with South African Tourism India, which has contributed over R100 000 to give exposure to George and surrounding areas.
George Tourism Manager Joan Shaw said hosting the group is part of the George Municipal Tourism Plan, which includes increasing the numbers of international tourists and tourists visiting in off-peak times.
The visitors' tour includes lunch at Fancourt; picking strawberries at Redberry Farm; overnight stays at Oubaai Hotel, Golf and Spa and the Views Boutique Hotel; adventure activities at Garden Route National Park in Wilderness; and paragliding.
To satisfy the Indian market's interest in new and local spicy food and a large variety of vegetarian options, George will be showing off its range of Indian food offerings during the visit.
A full day speed-marketing session on the Saturday will showcase the best products and star-graded accommodation establishments of the region.
Shaw said it is the first time that such a group will be visiting George.
"George Tourism will emphasise the variety of activities and accommodation on offer, including the convenience of basing groups in George to explore the rest of the Garden Route."
Another objective is to increase domestic tourism, and to this end George Tourism will be exhibiting at the Gauteng Getaway Show at the Ticketpro Dome from 23 to 25 September.
"George Tourism will promote the destination of George, including Wilderness and Uniondale," said Shaw.
