AGRICULTURE NEWS - Farmers and farm managers can take several steps today, to help protect their property, their assets and their staff during the December holidays when they might want to go on holiday. That’s according to Wahl Bartmann, CEO of the Fidelity Services Group.
“It is important to think about farm safety as a “team effort”; it is ultimately much bigger than just a single organisation or community. By working together and by looking out for one another, we can protect each other much better,” he says.
“Crime on farms have a knock-on effect on the stability of our economy and on our food production system, which is one of the reasons why we partnered with Agri-SA back in 2019 to offer a range of services and products to members and the rural community in an attempt to curb the unacceptably high number of farm attacks and related agricultural crime.”
Bartmann says their contribution to this partnership is through providing Integrated systems – from intrusion systems, to RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tagging, CCTV – ranging from Thermal, optic, both IP and Analogue, LPR and ANPR cameras, Fire Solutions, access control, monitoring services, control room facilities and guarding, which can be integrated to provide a complete and tailored managed Risk Solution .
Farmers and farm managers can take these steps to further help improve security measures:
- Join the local farm watch or security system that is operating in your district, and alert them to the fact that you will plan to be away for a few days in December. Make sure they know who you have appointed to stand in for you, and that they have the correct contact details.
- Secure the main house with a proper fence and lights and ensure that the area surrounding the house is free of shrub, trees or vegetation that can provide cover.
- Test your security system to make sure it works. If you have outside beams or sensors, make sure they pick up movement.
- Make sure that you know exactly who will be on your property while you are away, and that you trust that whomever will be managing the property on your behalf has your best interests at heart. Also make sure that everyone who will be there, know exactly what to do and how to respond if there is any act of criminality while you are gone.
“If you have any questions or any reason to be unsure about the measures you have put in place, make contact with an expert today,” says Bartmann.
