At the festival launch held recently, Outeniqua Primary School Headmaster, Mr Johan Smit - in announcing this year's sponsors (Vodacom will be the main sponsor alongside media sponsors George Herald and Algoa FM) - said that this year the festival will be shorter, but will be even more action-packed than before. "Food and wine lovers can look forward to yet another warm, hospitable festival from 27 to 29 July. Top wine estates will be represented at the festival along with the Foodworx Theatre, where chefs will host a variety of cooking demonstrations."
Other highlights include the Cheese Festival Idols Competition for which aspiring Southern Cape singers will be eligible. The semi-finals will be held on Saturday 28 July and the finals on Sunday 29 July. The winner will be announced by the South African singing sensation, Bobby van Jaarsveld. The popular SAMA-winner will give a matinee performance on 29 July at 13:00 in the Millers 'kuiertent'.
Claude Pretorius, who was recently chosen as a Kwêla TV presenter, will be the master of ceremonies and no doubt bring even more pizzazz to the events.
The Sport Centre Farmland Run (21,1km; 10km and 5km) will be held at the 4 Brothers Potato Store on 28 July. Other events include Cheese Tasting (Tour de Cheese), Whisky Tasting and the Junior Chef 2012 competition for kids from 6 to 9 years and 10 to 13 years. Children will be kept amused in the highly entertaining and safe Kids Zone.
