Festival patron, well-known local business man, Nic Barrow says everyone involved in this fiesta of classical music, wine, food and art are extremely excited. "It was a phenomenal success. People from all over the country flocked to Oudts-hoorn although the Klein Karoo Klassique was only promoted in the Southern Cape. I met a couple from Newcastle in KwaZulu Natal who drove all the way here for the festival. Next year we must definitely expand our marketing effort to include the entire country."
I was fortunate enough to attend the festival in the company of a great classical music enthusiast and therefore also an
expert, Dr Jack Thorne from Die Vleie outside Wilderness. He was very impressed with the high standard of the concerts and I asked him for his opinion on the shows I was lucky enough to attend. "The Brahms Sextet, a fleshy composition, was well received by an enthusiastic audience. Mendelssohn’s delightful and demanding Octet inspired by the authoritative excellence of Frank Stadler, the visiting Austrian violinist, brought the house to its feet.
"On Saturday the two superb pianists Nina Schumann and her husband Luis Magalhães brought a dimension to the performance of JS Bach’s Goldberg variations which evoked a feeling of intimacy that could be likened to the two winding coils of the helix expressing variations of the genetic code of life itself. A performance to be remembered."
