GEORGE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The 3rd Annual South Cape Arts Festival kicked off with some dance adjudications at the Dutch Reformed Mother Church Hall from 16 to 19 July.
Professional choreographer Sue Kirkland judged the entries in ballet, spanish, modern, hip-hop and tap.
The festival's rising star award went to Amelie Raubenheimer (16), who also won best senior improvisation and best stage presence, and shared the top all-round dancer award with Mieke-Marié van Rooyen (15). Mieke-Marié also won best national performance and most impressive senior ballet dancer.
Leah Geldenhuys (17) was named the most impressive senior modern dancer, Keira Meiring (12) the best tap dancer and Mieke Buitendag (13) for the best junior improvisation. Asha North (13) won best junior stage presence, Femke Smit (12) most impressive junior modern dancer, and Princess Lukubeni (8) the top all-round junior dancer.

The festival is supported by the George Municipality and several businesses, including John Dory's, Digiprint, Ballet World, Little Cherub Dancewear, Clay Café and Riana Koen (Annique).
Upcoming events include visual arts (29 July to 2 August, Hoogekraal Gallery), drama (28 July to 1 August, George Arts Theatre), and music (4 to 15 August, George Arts Theatre).
Entry to the adjudication is R30 per person, per session (cash or cards). Gala event tickets range between R100 to R150 and are available online on Quicket.
