The day produced very determined performances as they made their last efforts to end up in the top positions.
Some surprising results were the order of the day and several of the teams were able to gain revenge against teams who had beaten them in the earlier rounds.
Amid the sounds of the music and the cheering of the very attractive Gestetner girls and other supporters, some reputations were consolidated whilst others were shattered.
The most tightly contested game in the League section was fought out between the Furniture Doctor team who managed to subdue the Haus team by one shot, 13-12, while in the Plate section it was the team from Rotary who sneaked in, also by one shot, against the team from Old Mutual, 11-10.
At the top of the table, the Stanmar team gained a satisfying 11-8 win against leaders, Gestetner, thus turning around their defeat by the same team two weeks ago.
The Millers squad, who have played very consistently through the 8 weeks, reinforced their superiority over the Honda team, 17-6.
While the teams were waiting for the final scores to be compiled, they enjoyed some well earned snacks and were entertained by exhibitions of line dancing and breakdancing.
The tightness of the competition was illustrated the fact that both sections had to be decided on a shot average count-out - a real compliment to the determination showed by all the teams who were participating.
Jack Nel, originator of the Action Bowls League at the George Bowling Club, presented the prizes to all the winners.
The Plate section was eventually won by the Shell Sandkraal team comprising James van der Walt, Lynn Coggon, Adi Meintjies and Glenda Schluter.
Second place went to Mazars, 3rd to Rotary, 4th to the GT Group and 5th place to Coastal Petroleum.
The League was won by Stanmar Motors (Mel Cooper Williams, Deon du Toit, Guillaume de Swardt, Mich Prinsloo and Neal Perks) who were presented with the Gestetner Action Bowls Trophy - a meri-torious performance as they became the first team successfully to defend the trophy.
Second place went to the team from Lombards Attorneys, 3rd place to the sponsor’s team, Gestetner, 4th place to Millers Inc and 5th place to York High School.
Session prizes for scoring the best scores of the day went to the following: 1st week - Millers; 2nd week - Old Mutual; 3rd week - De Villiers & Moore; 4th week - Mazars; 5th week - Gestetner; 6th week - Alexander Forbes; 7th week - the Furniture Doctor and 8th week - York High School.
The next Gestetner Action Bowls competition will be held from 21 October to 25 November.
