GEORGE NEWS - Charity runner Sean Snyman (59) pushed his body to new limits by taking part in the 10km McDonald's to McDonald's race hosted on Monday, 17 June.
Running to raise money for disabled children who cannot take part in sports, Snyman overcame gusting winds and his own physical challenges in his "steps to cash" fundraising effort.
"I was very emotional when I finished the race," said Snyman, who only decided to participate in the race on Thursday 13 June.
"It was extremely difficult due to the strong winds, but I'm happy to have finished the race in 1 hour and 20 minutes, much faster than the 1 hour 45 minutes target I set for myself."
Snyman finished 460th out of 548 participants despite struggling with injuries from previous road accidents that have left him with no use in his right arm and lingering lower back and chest injuries. He also suffers from asthma.
Money collected from donations will be given to two schools in George and used to buy equipment to enable disabled children to also participate in sports.
Interested persons can reach out to the Eden Lions Club to make a donation.
"We take our lives for granted and our healthy young people seldom give those living with disabilities a second thought," said Snyman.
